You’re making a fantastic choice!

It’s all about you: the residents. Residency was designed to run smoothly and worry-free. Well, maybe no one expects it to be worry-free… and that’s one of the reasons why CEMRO was created. During your years of training, there will be times when you’re inundated, if not overwhelmed, with new material. Preparing for intern year, studying for Step 3, prepping for board certification, finding a job, or maybe seeking out fellowship — all in conjunction with learning emergency medicine. In other words, there is no shortage of material on your plate and variables juggling about in your mind. Medicine is a stressful profession…and within our healthcare universe, Emergency Medicine stacks up as one of the most stressful specialties one can pursue. Depression and anxiety can arise in any person. Sprinkle in a particularly bad string of shifts or rough off-service month with stressors in your personal life and research shows you have the recipe for burnout. Does it seem like your co-residents finish their tasks with ease? Perhaps you feel like you’re barely staying above water? Quite often and unexpectedly big changes occur. Then the things you’ve always been doing are no longer working. Performance fades, scores decrease and you feel like maybe you made a “mistake” choosing this profession. How do you reclaim your grounds, focus, and lead again? Especially when you feel like you’re no longer in control of your own life?
The opposite of that may be when everything is going alright — or even great. Your clinical acumen is growing quickly, and with that growth new satisfactions emerge. So what do you do in such an environment? Do you master a new procedure? Pick up a new hobby? Rest on your prior achievements? These are the decisions that will determine the long-term success of your career and professional longevity. At CERMO we believe that we’re all multidimensional beings and as such, we all needs multiple lines of ‘value flow’ in order to achieve satisfaction and mental well-being. The goal of CERMO is to offer emergency medicine residents a complex system of streams and channels to maximize your value flow. For those residents that are having a hard time during training for whatever the reason — CEMRO is actively developing a unique feature named The anonEMous Network, coming in 2018. For individuals that value their efficiency, CEMRO runs focus groups to direct our funds toward providing California Emergency Medicine residents tools and devices to improve their efficacy and efficiency. For residents that take true pleasure in self-development, CEMRO has put together Developmental Tracks to help implement new facets of their personal interests into their Emergency Medicine career. Our tracks are unique and unlike anything you’ll find offered within residency programs. Most importantly, we are here for you. If you have any questions, requests for new offerings/tracks/etc., or comments please let us know!
